Do very many people REALLY believe in "Young Earth Creationism"?

CNN has reported on multiple occasions that half of the U.S. believes our planet is less than 10,000 years old. Maybe some of those people don't really believe it despite saying they do (I don't know why they'd lie), but if even half of those people actually believe it, I'd find it pretty scary.
