Terrorist or Freedom Fighter? Does fighting for your country in a war make you a terrorist?

A lot of words have been thrown around about terrorist in countries like Jordan and Syria. If china invaded the united states and the army did nothing and you formed a militia what would you call your self freedom fighter? Liberator? Terrorist? Extremest? I want to know what people think.
