Why does my Dad think that me going to college in Arizona is not a good idea only because I'm a girl?

As he puts it. Me being a girl could be more dangerous than it would be to send a boy off to college to a state that is all the way across the USA from where we live. But if I was a boy it would be fine?!?!?! That is what he said and I don't see any fairness in this. I am leaving for college next year and I really want to go to the other school. And I've been accepted for it. Just because I am a girl that makes it dangerous for me to go to college far from home? I will even be rooming on campus with other girls. He said he does not care its still too far from home.
