Started solids at six months - what constitutes a food allergy?

What should I expect to see if she's allergic. She started rice cereal on Monday afternoon and by Tuesday evening she had become all congested. I figure that's just coincidence, but could it be a symptom of allergy or am I looking more for rashes, wheezing, etc.?
