Water pump in astra not working?

My old Citroen Saxo used to do this in the winter times, a right pain. I manage to get my working simply by driving it, and the engine heat was enough to de-thaw the water pump. You shouldn't need to travel far if it is a petrol astra because the engines get up to temperature pretty quick. Not so for the diesel one!
